Allowing Parents to Contact Their Teen

Having a cell phone not only allows teens to be able to contact their friends and parents; it also allows parents to contact their kids whenever they need them. If ever a problem arises when a parent needs to contact their child, they can just call or text them instead of wasting time trying to figure out how they can get ahold of them.

Emergency Situations

Another benefit of a teen having a cell phone is that they can contact help quickly without wasting time trying to find a phone. If there is an emergency, there shouldn’t be an issue finding a phone to use to call for help. Having a cell phone makes it so this problem can be avoided.

Tracking Your Child

Advancements in technology have also made it possible for parents to track where their kids are located geographically. There are cell phone apps that use the geo-locator feature of cell phones and can pinpoint your child’s location on a map. This is great for parents who like to know where their child is at all times. You’ll know when they are out of school and when they are at a friend’s house.

Parents like to know where their child is and cell phones have given parents the security that they need. You can communicate with your child anytime

Gaining Education on the Internet

Perhaps you can’t afford college, just yet, or you need some information for your daughter’s up and coming marriage. Gaining education on the Internet is possible. Still there are things to watch for; sites to avoid and sites to take with a grain of salt.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Because anyone can create a site or blog, whether “truly” knowledgeable or not, be aware of sites that are merely someone’s opinion. These sites can be quickly rooted out if you feel like the writer is spouting off his own thoughts, giving his own opinion. You may feel this more than see this, but will know when a site is strictly one of ranting.
  • Anything from a journal may be a more difficult read but is always considered more trustworthy than a personal blog. Articles from online magazines should be preferred over someone’s personal website. With that said; someone who has had a personal experience with “cancer” for example, may be as helpful to you as reading the charts and stat on another website.
  • Anything with a .edu or .org is preferable to .com. This is because having and .edu or .org suffix means that the site is education in its origin and run by a business or school that focuses on information for individuals. Type in “education.edu” or “education.org” into your search engine and get a list of education related sites.

Gaining information from the Internet should be a life-time pursuit. Remain engaged and get the truth by remembering the tips above.

Using PowerPoint in your next Presentation

You want your next presentation for business associates to be well, memorable. You want your associates to be glued in and eager to participate. You’ve considered using PowerPoint as your medium of success. What do you need to know to make your presentation successful?

  1. A PowerPoint presentation should never be written word for word on the slides. Simply put, the words you use on the slides should be “power words” not “every word” you’ll be speaking. If the folks in the audience don’t wnat to read the words on your slide, it’s usually because there are too many to read before you get to the next slide.
  2. Pictures, photos, or anything else with action should be kept to a minimum. The picture or moving object is to draw interest to your slide. Too much of a good thing will only cause confusion.
  3. Know your presentation well enough that you don’t have to look back at the screen to know what you’re supposed to say next. Keep cue cards in your hand if you need to.
  4. Make sure your associates get a one-page handout of key points that they can follow along with and then take with them.
  5. Pause for questions during and after your presentation. No question is a “stupid” question. Let all know that their question is viable by answering it professionally.
  6. Use humor in presenting only if you’re good at it. This is not the time to offend anyone.
  7. Keep your presentation as short as possible.

Using PowerPoint should add to your already prepared presentation. Be successful by using PowerPoint to make your great presentation—shine.
